The Board of Trustees of the International Day of Happiness was established in 2011 to promote and advance the Gross Global Happiness initiative of 2011. The Gross Global Happiness Initiative of 2011 resulted in the United Nations adoption of UN resolution 65/309 Happiness: Towards a Holistic Approach to Development and UN resolution 66/281: The International Day of Happiness.

Members of the Board of Trustees of International Day of Happiness played a leading role in founding the International Day of Happiness.

The International Day of Happiness Board of Trustees is responsible for implementing and serving the mandate of UN resolution 66/281: “The International Day of Happiness” in partnership with, in oversight of, and in support of the International Day of Happiness Board of Directors, and Global Executive Management.

The International Day of Happiness Board of Trustees leads and oversees the long-term mission, vision, strategy, management, and oversight of the International Day of Happiness global organization.

The International Day of Happiness Board of Trustees achieves and fulfills its mission and purpose through the following:
 

  • Leadership and management including establishment of long-term vision, mission, strategy.
  • High level engagement of multi-sector stakeholders including representatives of government, private sector, civil society, academia, spiritual and philanthropic communities, among others.
  • Diplomatic and political representation to governments and intergovernmental organizations and entities including the United Nations.
  • Investment, philanthropic, and financial support.
  • Governance and oversight.
  • Ethical and moral leadership.
